At Healing Arts Veterinary Center in West Palm Beach, we use veterinary ultrasound to examine soft tissues and internal organs in real time — offering a safe, non-invasive way to better understand your pet’s health.
What Can Ultrasound Detect?
Ultrasound is especially useful when lab work or X-rays reveal something abnormal but not conclusive. It’s commonly used to evaluate:
- The liver, kidneys, bladder, and spleen
- Heart structure and function (echocardiography)
- Lymph nodes and abdominal masses
- The uterus and reproductive tract
- Free fluid or internal bleeding
- Foreign objects in the gastrointestinal tract
Because ultrasound shows movement, it can also help us observe how organs are functioning in real time.
When Do We Recommend an Ultrasound?
- Ongoing vomiting or diarrhea

What to Expect During an Ultrasound Appointment
Most ultrasounds are quick, painless, and don’t require sedation. We gently shave a small area of your pet’s abdomen and apply ultrasound gel to ensure clear images. Your pet can usually stay awake and relaxed during the process, and we’ll talk you through everything we see.
In some cases, if a biopsy or fluid sample is needed, mild sedation may be recommended.
